Mika and her family were evacuees after Katrina and came to Knoxville where they were taken in by local businessman Gene Monday. Marla then moves onto to local politics as she visits with County Commissioner Diane Jordan and they talk about the effect the recent term limits rulings may have on her role in local government. Finally, Marla speaks with Cynthia Finch from the Knox County Mayor’s office about how she handles the day to day stress of her world. A longer version of Cynthia Finch’s interview is available here online where Cynthia and Marla also discuss the recent term limit ruling and how it is affecting Knox County politics.

Marla talks with a couple from New Orleans, Andrew and Jamie Nadeau, who was evacuated to the Knoxville area during Hurricane Katrina. The evacuation was complicated because the wife was literally in the middle of chemotherapy for cancer at the time of the evacuation. They found themselves in Tennessee without their medical records and in need of continued treatment. Their story is an incredible one. For the taping of this episode, the crew also traveled to New Orleans and begin to look into the recovery efforts eight months after Katrina.
